Thriller Information

Thriller is a broad genre of literature, film, television, and gaming that includes numerous and often overlapping sub-genres.

Thrillers are characterized by fast pacing, frequent action, and resourceful heroes who must thwart the plans of more-powerful and better-equipped villains. Literary devices such as suspense, red herrings and cliffhangers are used extensively.

Main Sub Genres:

Action thriller
Crime thriller
Disaster thriller
Drama thriller
Eco-thriller
Horror thriller
Legal thriller
Psychological thriller

• The heroes in most thrillers are frequently "hard men" accustomed to danger:
• They may also be ordinary citizens drawn into danger by accident.
• While such heroes have traditionally been men, women lead characters have become increasingly common.
• Thrillers often overlap with mystery stories, but are distinguished by the structure of their plots.
• Thrillers also occur on a much grander scale: the crimes that must be prevented are serial or mass murder, terrorism, assassination, or the overthrow of governments.

Where’s My Money Evaluation

Our group’s media film is entitled “Where’s My Money”. The process involved in creating our film started with the writing of the script. As we wrote the script we started to get more of an idea of what the video would include and slightly changed a few ideas to fit the script better. After the script writing we started our draft storyboard using pictures we had drawn, which gave us a bit more stability and confidence in the content our film would include. Being satisfied with the draft we took digital pictures of the shots we would eventually take using the camera and constructed our final storyboard. Having confidence that our ideas would work we started filming. After all the filming was finished and we were satisfied we edited it all together, added some music and made the credits.

The film itself involved 3 characters (me Chris and Elsie). The movie starts with me walking lowly down a corridor. As I reach the end I turn towards a door, at this point Chris is inside the room and gets a shot of the door opening from inside the room. As I step through the door there is a close up of me looking around the room followed by a extreme close up of my eyes moving side to side to create a sinister effect.

The biggest obstacle we faced in the completion of this task was technical issues e.g. sometimes not being able to move on a stage due to problems with computers and uploading. There were some problems with the shots for example the point where I walk through the door and sit down the viewers are not aware that Elsie is there, therefore the shot almost gives the impression that she just appeared out of no where.

We used mise-en-scene and semiotics throughout the film for example the extreme close-up of my eyes shifting gave the impression of danger or at least the fact something dodgy is going to happen.

The editing of the film went surprisingly smoothly, we managed to create effects for example looking down the barrel of a gun. We added music and credits to add a more professional touch to the film.
